Tickle me pink!

Colour has played a massive part in my life, and no doubt in yours too.  We all go through sad and happy events, but don't realise how colour affects our 'moment'.  As kids, if our parents gave us something in colour, we would've had already identified whether we like it or not.  Tantrums ahoy! "No, mum, I want the orange one, not the green one".  We would quite easily associate colour with taste, now you know how you don't like the green fruit pastilles but opt for the blackcurrant ones, right?  It would be the minority who would take the green one off your hands for the sake of having a sweet.

I studied colour theory back in the day when I studied art and design, fashion & textiles then colour consultancy, and finally colour therapy.  This blog is a mix of theory, therapy and meaning as you will see.  When I mention 'cooler' or 'warmer', I know some of you get it and others look baffled, but it's ok...the images to the left explain it.

We've all heard the saying, "He's got the blues or she's red hot".   This is where the hidden meaning of the colours come into place.  So let's start with how colour can help you and then move onto the meaning of each colour.

Presentations:  Effective speaking can be helped along by wearing something turquoise near your throat area.  Why?  Because the throat chakra is governed by this colour and can clear any blockages.

Depression:
It
is said that the colour 'orange' can help lift the way you're feeling. So carry a colour swatch of orange in your pocket and look at it when you need to. I'm not saying that this will conquer all your problems, but it sure will help lift your spirits.

To mend a broken heart: Wear pale violet, pink or even green.  The green is the traditional colour which governs the 'heart' chakra, but the pale violet and pink actually is the 'mirror' image/transitional colour of that area.

To gain attention of the opposite sex: Wear 'red', this colour is associated with the 'root' also known as 'base' chakra which governs our animal instincts, It’s also associated with the adrenal, kidneys, muscles, and arterial blood. This chakra links you with the physical world and is our base for our life energy. This is the one that gives us the motivation to eat, sleep and even to procreate.

Now, let's move onto the meaning of colour.

RED: Indicates a go getter who doesn't mind taking a risk or two.  Someone who may find it difficult to curb their anger from time to time, but is also a passionate person. Targets/goals don't phase them, but by adding a little blue, they can learn not to burn so much energy but instead to relax and unwind. Linked to Mars, the God of war.

BLUE: A very calm and almost sedate person who loves their freedom.  They don't want to work too hard, but instead go to work, returns home and relaxes doing what makes them happy.  Sometimes you may feel a little sluggish, but a little red will help boost your energy.  Blue/Turquoise which is linked to the throat chakra will help anyone to untangle their words. Linked to planet earth.

PURPLE: A majestic colour and also one belonging to the 'High Priestess'.  The person who loves purple would like their heart to be healed and is very spiritual indeed.  They demand the best and will only receive the best....but don't mistake this with snobbery, they only want what's fit for royalty.

GREEN: Someone who loves nature, harmony, balance, finding justice and would prefer to be outdoors most of the time. Is good at helping others and also listening to conversations rather than saying too much at all. Linked to planet/goddess Venus

PINK: Pink is the colour of love, Venus, the heart and all things lovely.  The 'pink' person wants to be loved, would want to be surrounded with lots of beautiful things and with a touch of green, this would really take romanticism to another level.

YELLOW:  Sunny personalities, generally happy, harmonious people choose yellow, however it can also signify a coward and deceit on the downside.  On the bright side, the more warmer the yellow, the more golden it becomes.

BROWN:  Hmmm, this is a funny one. I don't actually remember anyone getting excited over this colour.  It's usually associated with 'boring'.  Sorry if I've upset anyone, however I tend to tell it like it is...oops, the RED is coming out.  However, brown and green are usually associated with the colour of money.  I'm not saying that people who love this colour are loaded, or attracting money, however the next time someone mentions the colour brown, the drinks are on him...or her.  I'm keeping my mouth firmly shut, ;).

ORANGE: As mentioned earlier, if you love the colour orange, this is based between the red and yellow, thus red and yellow when mixed makes orange.  So you're extremely level headed with a very cheery and independent nature.  Not too OTT unlike the red and not too undercooked via the yellow.  Love life and live it...

BLACK: Okay, this isn't a colour, however it's an interesting shade which people find themselves loving for many reasons.  Black indicates someone who is proud, who takes time to look things over and is more likely to take a back seat whilst everyone is rushing around them, then they will have their say at the last minute.  It's linked to the mysterious planet Pluto.

WHITE: Again this isn't a colour, but an absence of colour and thus a great reflector of heat.  The meaning behind white is that of purity and clinical, hence why most salon's have been told not to over use white as it doesn't help relax the client so much. Dentists will use white in abundance, but try to jazz it up by using colourful posters on the wall.  Check this next time you pay a visit.  White is also spiritual, and used to protect others against evil and negativity,  So if you find yourself attracted to this absence of colour, you may consider yourself a 'helper' among men.

GREY: If you find yourself liking grey, it's not a bad thing, ahem.  Well, it just means that you're a 'middle of the road' kinda person, one that doesn't like to attract attention and can be somewhat boring.  Okay, I'll stop there before I ruffle your feathers.  On the upside, you prefer a secure balanced existence, erm, yes... Let's hope your secondary colour helps you out of this one.

Secondary colours / shades are your second choice. I love red as my first colour and I love black...my secondary choice helps to balance, add or subtract the good and the bad from my primary choice of colour.

Please don't take this too seriously I'm sure we all have secondary colours which counterbalance our primary choice.
